on hold

it's taking me awhile to gather my thoughts on Indy 4, so rest assured that I am working on a true Cameron-style (read: ramble ramble ramble) review, but it probably won't be up until tomorrow. I'm sure all three people who read this are waiting with baited breath.

waiting for Indy

This is the first post of my new blog era, and it seems suitable that it be devoted to Indiana Jones, which I am seeing later tonight with Richard, Bre and Jake. We are currently watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and it reminds me an awful lot of the Aztec play I was in in 4th grade, in which I played the Aztec priest. I had to say the following speech, which I'm pretty sure I've written about before, but which seems appropriate to reiterate anyway during this Indy marathon:

"I am the Aztec priest. I sacrifice victims at the end of the day. They dance up the steps and lay on the altar, where I rip out their still-beating heart."

It got lots of laughs from parents and I remember not really understanding why. Anyway. The heart-ripping out scene in Temple of Doom made me think of it. Holy crap is ToD not as good as the other two Indy movies! It's really kind of depressing. This is the first time I've seen it since the first time I watched the trilogy, back when I was 11 or 12. I remember being distinctly unimpressed back then, and quite frankly, I still am. Bre and I are playing a drinking game where we sip margaritas every time Kape Capshaw says or does something stupid, or every time she screams or is grossed out by something. It's helping. I just want to get to Last Crusade already! It's my favorite because of Sean Connery and the whole Holy Grail thing. I've been on a Holy Grail kick recently. I just reread The DaVinci Code and then I watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And this new documentary just came out called Blodline which kind of looks like a joke, like it's a fake documenatry, but I sort of want to see it anyway.

Less than two hours until we go see Indy 4! I know the chances of it being good aren't that great, but it has to at least be better than Temple, if for no other reason than because it has no Kate Capshaw. Karen Allen > Allison Doody > Kate Capshaw.

I've been thinking about it, and I think that Shia LaBeouf probably won't ruin the whole thing. It might suck for other reasons, but I don't think it will be his fault. He's not a great choice, but he at least wasn't THAT bad in Transormers. Could have been worse. If he could make a most beloved 80's cartoon series into a decent movie, maybe he can make a most beloved 80's action trilogy into a new decent movie. Here's hoping. I'm mostly worried about the atrocious CGI that's in the trailers.

So here's to Indiana Jones! See you on the other side.
